19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
